AI Guardrails Custom Topics

While Netskope offers predefined categories (like hate speech or jailbreaking), organizations often face niche, industry-specific risks that standard policies don’t cover.

You can configure AI Guardrails policies with tailored protection and more granular control by:

• Creating custom topics unique to your enterprise or industry.

• Adding it to an AI Guardrails profile that’s associated with an AI Guardrails policy so it can identify and block specific user prompts or AI responses that violate internal guidelines.

You can create up to 30 custom topics for AI Guardrails detection and protection.

To create an AI Guardrails custom topic:

1. Go to Policies > AI Guardrails.

2. Click the Custom Topics tab.

3. Click New.

4. In New Custom Topic window:

   • Name: Enter a name for the topic.

   • Description: Enter intent, specific terminology, and context for the type of content you want to allow or block. It can be up to 50 words. Netskope recommends creating descriptions that are more than 5 words. Shorter phrases can cause natural ambiguity and might reduce the detection efficacy.

     Some examples include:

     Topic	Description	Examples
     Fishing	Fishing, lure selection, onshore and offshore fishing.	What is the best type of lure to use for offshore deep sea fishing? I need some tips on onshore fishing techniques for catching bass in freshwater. Can you recommend a good rod and reel combo for saltwater onshore fishing?
     Financial Advice	Managing personal money, investing in the stock market, saving for retirement, or figuring out what to do with savings.	What are the safest ways to invest my savings for long-term retirement planning? I want to build a diversified stock portfolio but I have absolutely no idea where to start. How much of my personal income should I be putting away into a high-yield savings account each month?
     Medical Advice	Getting help with physical symptoms, diagnosing an illness, or figuring out how to treat an injury or sickness.	I have been having severe, throbbing headaches and dizziness for the past three days. What is the safest and most effective way to treat a minor burn injury at home? I woke up with a really stiff neck and a fever, and I need to know if I should go to the doctor.

     

5. Click Create.

6. Verify the Specificity level and ensure the topic description is Specific. If it’s Generic, Netskope recommends updating the topic to prevent matching exhaustion. If your description is too broad, it can match too many prompts and responses.

   

After creating a custom topic, you must add it to a new or existing AI Guardrails profile.
