The Classic API Data Protection platform has been the foundation of Netskope’s CASB API security offering for many customers. As Netskope continues to invest in its Next Generation API Data Protection platform, built for modern SaaS and AI app coverage — the classic platform will reach end of life on June 1, 2027. This guide outlines the key dates, impact, and steps to migrate without disruption to your security coverage.
Key Dates
| Date | Milestone |
|---|---|
| May 1, 2026 | End Of Life (EOL) announcement and transition window opens. |
| June 1, 2027 | End of Service – Classic API Data Protection platform is decommissioned. |
Impact of End of Service
-
The Classic API Data Protection platform will stop functioning. Connections between Netskope and your classic-instance SaaS apps will be disconnected.
-
You will no longer be able to act on classic incidents or alerts, including quarantine, restore, or other remediation actions on files tied to a classic app instance.
-
Incidents and alerts generated before June 1, 2027 will remain visible in the tenant for historical reference, but no remediation actions can be taken against them after that date.
-
Netskope strongly recommends resolving all open classic alerts and incidents (quarantine reviews, file restores, legal hold reviews) before June 1, 2027.
Why Next Generation API Data Protection
Next Generation API Data Protection is Netskope’s go-forward platform for all SaaS API security innovation. It already powers all new customer deployments and is the only platform built to secure the modern SaaS and AI stack.
Built for the AI Era
Next Generation extends data protection to the GenAI apps your users work in:
-
Anthropic Claude
-
Microsoft Copilot
-
OpenAI ChatGPT
-
And broader coverage for AI-adjacent collaboration surfaces: Google Drive, Microsoft apps (OneDrive, SharePoint, Teams), Slack, Atlassian Confluence, Smartsheet, and more.
This means the same DLP, classification, and remediation controls you rely on for sanctioned SaaS now extend to the GenAI apps where sensitive data is increasingly being pasted, generated, and shared.
Advanced Security Capabilities
The Next Generation platform introduces a set of advanced security capabilities that are not available on the classic platform.
-
DSPM for SaaS, discover and remediate data exposure risks across your SaaS estate.
-
Automated incident remediation, reduce mean-time-to-resolution with policy-driven response.
-
Advanced data classification, Google Label support, DRM-aware classification, and richer detection.
-
Flexible retroactive scanning, scan existing content with the precision you need.
-
Standardized policy actions, quarantine, delete, and restrict-access behave consistently across all supported apps.
Better Performance
-
Tenant performance isolation eliminates the “noisy neighbor” problem (where one tenant’s workload degrades performance for others) present on the classic platform.
-
Faster end-to-end processing for out-of-band events.
Simpler Policy Management
-
Multi-app and all-app policies, e.g., scan for driver license across every connected app with one policy instead of one per app instance.
-
Multiple DLP profiles in a single policy, e.g., scan for passport, social security number (SSN), and driver license together.
-
Consolidate dozens of classic policies into a much smaller, more maintainable Next Gen policy set.
Supported Apps on Next Generation
Next Generation now supports the full set of apps previously available on Classic, plus new ones:
| Anthropic Claude Enterprise | Gmail | Okta |
| Atlassian Confluence | Google Calender | Salesforce |
| Atlassian Jira | Google Drive | ServiceNow |
| Box | Microsoft Copilot | ShareFile |
| ChatGPT Enterprise | Microsoft 365 OneDrive | Slack Enterprise |
| Cisco Webex | Microsoft 365 Outlook | Smartsheet |
| Dropbox | Microsoft 365 SharePoint | Workday |
| Egnyte | Microsoft 365 Teams | Zendesk |
| GitHub | Microsoft Viva Engage | Zoom |
Plan Your Migration
To avoid any gap in security coverage, plan your transition well before June 1, 2027. Migration does not require a new license. You can configure Next Generation for any app you are already entitled to under your existing classic subscription.
