    Configure VPE Node

    Configure VPE Node

After successfully deploying the VPE node, set up the VPE nodes.

    To configure the VPE node:

    1. Log in to SSH with the default user name: nsadmin and password: nsappliance

You can change your password by using the command: auth change-password nsadmin.
    2. Enter nsshell to enter the VPE CLI.

    3. When you first log in, you will be dropped into the system shell.

    4. Enter configure to go to configuration mode.

You can configure VPE nodes in the following stages:

    Check Software version

Use the following command to confirm the correct software version of the VPE node. This helps to verify that the installed version matches the downloaded version.

    show version-info
On a new node, only the software version is displayed, Service packages such as SWG, URL database and threat feed get populated only after attaching the service template.

    Set up Network Interface

You must set up the network interface for the VPE Node.

Enter into the configuration mode using the configure command.

    Configure DNS

For DNS configuration, use the command:

ns-vpe# set dns primary <Primary DNS Server IP>
    ns-vpe# save

    Configure Default Interface

The default interface, eth1 is used for both management and dataplane traffic and can use DHCP or a static address, but only one mode at a time.

    IPv6 is not supported.

    Configure DHCP

Use the following command to configure DHCP:

set interface eth0 v4 enable true

    Configure Static IP

You can configure a static IP address for the eth1 interface instead of using DHCP.

If DHCP is enabled, run show route interface eth0 v4 to see the IP, gateway, and netmask assigned to the interface.

Use the following commands to set the static IP:

set interface dp2 v4 enable false
    set interface eth0 v4 static ip <IP address>
    set interface eth0 v4 static netmask <netmask>
    set interface eth0 v4 static gw <gateway>
set interface eth0 v4 static enable true
    save
    Disable DHCP before proceeding.

    Set Hostname

Netskope recommends updating the VPE Node hostname for local identification. For example, the Netskope UI displays this hostname during the registration process.

Use the following command to update the hostname:

    set system hostname <new hostname>

After saving, the CLI prompt changes as soon as the configuration is saved. The node now displays the configured hostname with its IP.
