As part of Netskope’s continuous innovation, you are encouraged to migrate from the Classic API Data Protection platform to the Next Generation API Data Protection platform. The Next Gen platform provides superior scalability, reliability, and performance, along with new features that ensure your security strategy remains future-ready.
During migration, it is important to be aware that the following features available in the Classic platform will not be carried forward into the Next Gen platform. Understanding these differences will help you make informed decisions as you plan your transition.
Connected Applications for Google Drive
Impacted app: Google Drive
In the Classic platform, administrators could:
-
Monitor which third-party apps were connected to Google Drive.
-
View which users had access to those apps.
-
Revoke app access when needed.
These capabilities are not available in the Next Generation platform. Instead, Netskope recommends leveraging SaaS Security Posture Management (SSPM). SSPM provides richer visibility into connected apps, detailed risk assessments, and centralized management across your SaaS environment. While app revocation is not yet available in SSPM, this functionality is on the product roadmap. Customers relying on Connected Apps in Classic should carefully evaluate SSPM as part of their migration plan.
Slack Teams Integration on Non-Enterprise Plans
Impacted app: Slack Teams
In the Classic platform, Netskope offered API-based integration with Slack Teams. With the Next Generation platform, Slack integration requires the Slack Enterprise Grid plan, as Slack now mandates the use of Discovery APIs for compliance and security.
Customers on Slack Pro or Business+ (a.k.a Slack Teams) will no longer be able to use API-based integration after migrating.
What You Need to Do?
-
Already on Enterprise Grid? If your organization is already subscribed to the Enterprise Grid plan and has our Next Generation API integration deployed, no action is required.
-
Planning to upgrade? If you are considering or in the process of upgrading to the Enterprise Grid plan, please work with the slack account team. Once your license is upgraded, you can proceed and follow the migration steps for Slack Enterprise.
-
Not on Enterprise Grid? If you are not on Enterprise Grid today, review your Slack licensing strategy before migrating to ensure continued API integration support. The Next Generation API Data Protection integration for Slack is exclusive to the Enterprise Grid plan.
API-Enriched Controls in CASB Inline
Impacted app: Slack Enterprise
For customers using the Slack Enterprise in the Classic platform, Netskope supported API-enriched controls, where CASB Inline policies could take action based on additional exposure context provided by the API, such as sensitive data indicators.
This feature is not available in Next Generation API Data Protection. When migrating from Classic to Next Generation, any policies that rely on this feature must be reviewed and adapted using the alternative enforcement options provided in the Next Generation platform.
To learn more about the technical details, talk to your Netskope sales representative or customer support.
Quarantine-Based Policy in CASB Inline
Impacted apps: Box, Dropbox, Egnyte, Google Drive, Microsoft 365 OneDrive & SharePoint
In the Classic platform, administrators could configure quarantine-based policies in CASB Inline for popular storage applications, including Box, Dropbox, Egnyte, Google Drive, OneDrive, and SharePoint. This allowed flagged files to be quarantined automatically as a policy action.
This capability will not be offered in the Next Generation platform. The previous implementation lacked a complete remediation workflow, which limited its effectiveness. Customers with quarantine-based policies should revisit their configurations and adopt alternative enforcement actions supported in CASB Inline to maintain effective policy outcomes.
What You Should Do Next?
-
Review your current policies: Identify whether any of your existing controls depend on these Classic-only features.
-
Plan your migration: Work with your security teams to adjust policies and incorporate supported alternatives in the Next Gen platform.
-
Leverage SSPM and other solutions: Where applicable, take advantage of Netskope’s forward-looking solutions, such as SSPM, for enhanced visibility and governance.
