How Does Next Generation API Data Protection Provisioning Work?

Provisioning has the following use cases:

  • UI Dashboard and Inventory: Collect a running inventory for the customer to see information about their SaaS app.

  • Retroactive scan: For retroactive scan policies, API Data Protection requires existing metadata to understand what to scan retroactively.

During provisioning, API Data Protection looks for:

  • Users

  • Groups and memberships

  • Content collections (drives, sites, repositories, channels, etc.)

  • Content (files, folders, commits)

  • Permissions for content collection and content

Next Generation Dashboard

The dashboard presents summary information from the inventory table. Currently, the dashboard is only available for email and storage apps. Navigate to API-enabled Protection > CASB API (NEXT GEN) > Dashboard.

Classic vs Next Generation Dashboard

  • Next Generation consolidates data from all instances under an app to display information in a consistent view, whereas in Classic, each app has its own dedicated inventory/dashboard page.

  • In Next Generation, the “File Types” chart is not supported, whereas in Classic is is supported.

  • In Next Generation, the file count is only a count of files and does not include folders. The file count displayed in Classic dashboard totals up the count of both files and folders instead.

Next Generation Inventory

The Inventory page is a table of information split into the following categories:

  • Content: Comments, emails, files, chat messages, wiki pages.

  • Content Collection: channel, folders, repositories, and Wikis.

  • User: External collaborators, users.

  • User Group: SaaS app groups.

Navigate to API-enabled Protection > CASB API (NEXT GEN) > Inventory.

Classic vs Next Generation Inventory

  • Next Generation consolidates data from various app instances to display the inventory information in a consistent view, whereas in Classic, each app has its own dedicated inventory/dashboard page.

  • In Next Generation Inventory, the following relevant filters are supported:

  • In Next Generation, the UI provides the estimated total count.

Total count is an estimate based on the filter criteria selected. Total count does not include folders.

To get the folder count (estimate), click the Content Collection > Folder drop-down.

  • “PDF Report” and “Export” will be supported in a future release.

  • Next Generation does not support the “Versions” table in the File Details panel.

Classic vs Next Generation DLP Incidents & Skope IT Alerts

There are a few noteworthy differences in the way Netskope displays DLP incidents and Skope IT alerts in Classic and Next Generation API Data Protection. If you have any forward integration like log ingestor, etc where these values are ingested, you should update these values.
